Chidi came home one evening with a young woman, Andey, a 24-year-old beauty who, from the moment she stepped through the door, made herself comfortable in Awa’s home. She was dressed in a tight red dress, her makeup flawless, and her presence unmistakably bold. Awa stood in the kitchen, holding a wooden spoon, frozen as Andey sat down on the sofa, acting as if she were already a part of the family.

“Awa, this is Andey. She’s going to be staying here. She’s an executive assistant at Orange Senegal,” Chidi said casually, as if it was nothing. “She knows some important people. She’ll help me out.”

Awa felt her stomach drop. Andey gave her a once-over, then smirked. “So, you’re Awa, the one who sells food at the market? Really brave of you.”

Awa’s hands shook, and she excused herself, retreating to the kitchen. Chidi followed her in, shutting the door behind him. “Awa, things have changed. I’ve changed. I can’t live with someone who doesn’t keep up with my pace anymore.”

Awa’s heart shattered as she stood there, still holding the spoon. “What about everything we’ve done together? The nights I stayed awake sewing your shirts, the money I gave for your education, the sacrifices I made?” Her voice trembled, but she didn’t let the tears fall.
