“Careful,” I laughed.
“I’ve got it,” he insisted.
He didn’t.
Coffee almost spilled.
Our daughter laughed.
And so did I.
That night, as everything quieted, I thought about that promise again.
“I’ll find you.”
He did.
Not easily.
Not quickly.
But completely.
I looked at him beside me.
No longer a memory.
No longer a question.
Just real.
Just mine.
